History buffs looking for a vacation destination needn’t look beyond this list.
Historic Hotels of America recently chose the Best Winners of the Historic Hotel Awards 2021, which highlight a variety of sites built in the 19th and 20th centuries.
“The winners are the finest hotels and owners of historic hotels from across the USA,” Lawrence Horowitz, executive vice president of Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide, said in a press release.

Horowitz added, “The winners were chosen from among the famous historical hotels nominated, including Historic Small Hotels, Historic Small Hotels, Historic Fashionable Hotels and Legendary Historic Resorts. They represent small towns to big cities to UNESCO World Heritage destinations.” “We commend the dedication and passion of the thousands of individuals working at these iconic and legendary hotels that keep the stories of the past alive and make staying or celebrating special occasions at these historic hotels an unforgettable experience.
“The hotels on this list best represent the spirit of perseverance and preservation of historic hotels. Over the many decades, if not centuries, these buildings have witnessed, the care of their employees, owners and operators and the support of travelers allowing their stories to continue.”

The Palmer House in Chicago won “Best Historic Hotel” in the 400-plus guestrooms category from Historic Hotels of America. The Hilton-owned hotel opened its doors in 1871 and was the first hotel in the city to have elevators, light bulbs, and in-room telephones. Historic Hotels of America has chosen this 262-foot-tall hotel for the Best Historic Hotel award in recognition of positive guest experience, gracious hospitality and service.

Historic Hotels of America has extended the same award to hotels with fewer guest rooms, including the 110-year-old Skirvin Hilton Oklahoma City (201 to 400) and the 86-year-old King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort (76 to 200 rooms) on Saint Simons Island, Georgia.

Historic Hotels of America’s Best Historic Resort
Hilton finds itself on America’s “Best” Historic Hotels list once again with Hotel del Coronado, part of the Hilton Curio Collection. Hotel del Coronado has been awarded “Best Historic Resort” by the Historic Society. Located in Coronado, California, the historic hotel has been in operation for 133 years. Guests enjoyed the more than 750-room, 28-acre Victorian Beach Resort, which earned its historic award.

Historic Hotels of America’s Best Historic Inn / Inn
The Blackburn Inn & Conference Center in Staunton, Virginia has impressed historic hotels in America with its level of customer service. Within 80 acres of land, the inn has served guests since 1828. The 49-room property won the “Best Small Historic Hotel/Inn/Hotel” category, which America’s historic hotels consider to have fewer than 75 rooms. According to the Historic Society, The Blackburn Inn & Conference Center provides “exceptional hospitality and customer service.”

Historic Hotels in America Best Social Media for a Historic Hotel
The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan has a social media feed most admired by historic hotels in America. The 388-room hotel opened its doors to the public in 1887 and now posts stunning photos of landmarks on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube. Over 61,200 followers are looking forward to the hotel’s daily uploads.
