NYC Tourist Sees Diners Sitting Directly Outside Hotel Room Window In Viral TikTok Video – CBS New York

New York (CBS New York) A woman visiting New York City had a strange experience when she looked out her hotel room window.

As CBS2’s Gina De Angelis reported Thursday, the tourist’s viral video showed that she didn’t get what she paid for.

Desiree Baker started her TikTok video with photos of the room she booked on Airbnb. Then I went to check out the City View.

“This is a restaurant. “Two people are eating dinner,” Baker says in the clip.

“I pulled up the blinds and said, ‘This is a table,’ and then I’m like, ‘This is a restaurant! Wait, what’s going on? “I shut it down super fast because I’m like, ‘Can they see what’s inside of us?'”

The Massachusetts resident was visiting New York with her boyfriend last weekend.

After looking out the window, she left her room at the Cassa Times Square Hotel and Residences and went to Tempura Restaurant to see the view from the other side. But it was just a mirror.

Baker said the restaurant was not surprised and offered them drinks.

When Baker reached out to the Airbnb listing host, she said the response was late and unhelpful.

“I didn’t really know where to go with her. The Airbnb was in a hotel, but there was no receptionist, there wasn’t, it was a weird situation,” Becker said.

Baker said Airbnb reached out to her after watching the viral video with a refund.

“The hotel is under investigation,” Airbnb said in a statement to CBS2.

The general manager of the hotel sent us a video of the room showing the view of the city skyscrapers above the restaurant, which he said was surrounded by inclement weather. He didn’t answer our questions over the phone.

There has to be transparency, Baker said.

“I think it might be fair to have the rooms still ready to rent and the restaurant to still sit at that table or whatever, but you have to know what’s going on,” Baker said. “It doesn’t make you feel safe in any way.”

Consumer expert Jordan Goodman said customers should pay attention to prices and reviews on Airbnb.

“The other thing is the super hosts,” Goodman said. “The way to become a superhost is to get a lot of positive reviews.”

Baker said she never expected her video review to go viral. She just wanted to share the horrific experience.

“As crazy as the situation is, what would I have done about it? That would only happen in New York City,” Becker said.
