A 37-year-old man faces multiple criminal charges in connection with a burglary at a Collier County hotel in September.

Investigators say Thomas James White entered the victim’s hotel room at WoodSpring Suites at 3789 White Lake Blvd. , near the Golden Gate, on September 15 after he told the front desk clerk that he had lost his room key. The employee gave White a key to the victim’s room without verifying his identity and making sure that White was indeed the guest who rented the room. At the time, White was staying in a room two doors away from the victim.

The video shows white hotel security knocking on the victim’s room door and then walking to the lobby to get the door key card from an office worker. A few minutes later, he emerges from the victim’s room with two drinks in his hands with a heavy object filling his pants pockets, which has not been seen before in the video clip.

The victim says four wristwatches worth $1,750 and a checkbook were stolen from the room. Investigators have identified White as the suspect in the video from previous encounters with law enforcement. He was spotted very early Friday morning smoking a cigarette outside the Red Roof Inn by Collier County sheriffs patrolling the 1900s building on Davis Boulevard, who took him into custody for probable cause.

A search for White revealed several drugs in his pockets, including cocaine and crystal methamphetamine. White, whose address was not given in the arrest reports, faces charges of grand larceny, burglary, cocaine possession, amphetamine possession, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is a convicted criminal and was out of bail at the time of his arrest.
