Lake District Hotels order 33,000 sprouts for Christmas

Opinion may differ about Brussels sprouts — but the Lake District hotel group ordered 33,000 of them to feed holiday-goers at Christmas.

It looks like Lake District hotels are gearing up to serve up nearly 500 pounds of turkey, 550 pounds of potatoes, 2,200 pigs in blankets, 100 pints of gravy, and 100 pounds of stuffing — plus 2,300 ground beef patties.

Danny Hope, director of family-owned Lake District Hotels, said: “We will be serving thousands of Christmas and New Year dinners over the coming weeks and Buds will be a reassuring accompaniment to all of them.

“We don’t expect everyone to indulge in fun but choice is everything at Lake District hotels, and we certainly won’t deprive any of our guests. Sprout or not sprout – the decision will be theirs.”

Lake District Hotels own six properties in Cumbria including the Inn on the Square, Kings Arms, and Skiddaw Hotel in downtown Keswick; Borrowdale Hotel in Borrowdale; Lauder Falls Hotel & Spa by Derwentwater; And lodge on the lake at Ullswater Beach.

Executive Chef Mark Harris said: “December is a magical time at Lake District hotels, and with kitchens crowded, there is always a real festive feel as the teams serve up Christmas on a plate for the thousands of people who have entrusted us with their celebration or festive gathering.”
